NATIONAL DAY ACTION UNDER WAY IN DUBAI RALLY

As the UAE celebrates its 40th Anniversary, National Day action is under way in the 33rd Dubai International Rally, final round of the 2011 FIA Middle East Rally Championship.

Top seed and defending champion Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah of Qatar was the first to start the opening "Spirit of the Union" stage this morning, the first of 12 special stages run over two days.

This 19km section is the most technical in the rally and the driver with the fastest time receives a special award.

Today's stages are in the Malaiha & Shawka area and are easily located from the Sharjah-Kalba Road.
